Ekner was as famous as charles linburg, the man who did the first solo airplane flight across the atlantic. Ekener had flown the hindenburg's predecessor ship, the graf zepplin one, around theen re world in a circumnavigation flight. He falsely claimed to have tried to get safe gas helium from the united states for use in the hindenburg specifically. But records show that he did not ask for helium for the hindenburg.
