Is There a Flood in Genesis?

ean: Some of the new testament references to the flood do seem to bery difficult to me to square with a purely metaphorical interpretation. For instance, does jesus saying that abel's blood cries out still imply that abel was at least partly historical? And hebrews lists noah among the list of saints in salvation history we should look up to,. right along with others who are unambiguously historical. i'm not sure i'm completely comfortable with this idea, but i thought i'd put it out there.
