Bishop Dave spent the bulk of his priesthood, some 40 years, in south central Los Angeles. He dedicated himself to reconciling warring gangs, often putting himself in danger in the process. The typical move for him was during the riots after the Rodney King episode. His own people felt guilty having looted stores but didn't want to go to police and then their lives would be compromised forever.
