The Athletic Skills model was developed by Jan-Vellum Tunisen, who used to be the movement scientist at Ajax. When kids reach a growth spurt zone, training is reduced so they can focus on skill development and neuromuscular development instead of physical activity. The idea here was to work on the coordination and the balance of the kids at that point of time.
