The preferred terminology is person with addiction to use whatis called person language, much in the same way that we don't call people artistics in noun forma people with artism. And just like the autism example, brings up theres diversity of perspectives on this issue. A lot of it does revolve around fear. The fear that can arise in the wake of these types of drug epidemics has always led to simplistic answers which may be beneficial in a limited sense, but often harmful an unbalanced.
