I normally just use straight honey for most of my liquid cultures. I've noticed more nutrient dense things like malt extract. You can sometimes get like way too much growth and it can become quite hard to inoculate. It depends on the species you're working with, but you can get these huge like mycelium mats forming almost on the top. There's a point at which you can kind of, if you're eagle eyed and kind of lucky, you can get it just at the right stage because it also spread like wildfire.
