One theory for all of the cognitive changes I'm going to say is mostly just like stress. The one who was in space had more risk taking behavior than his brother but his willingness to like take risks decreased over the course of him being in space. They also found that astronauts actually their eyeballs like the shape of the eyeball changes while they're in space because of the gravity situation. So once you get back on earth it's a different story. And NASA argued that they would have a harder time recognizing objects and recovering from mishaps if they were there longer.
