Inflation in the Politics of the 19 Seventies
i brought up this a a piece that got a lot of attention about a year ago, from the very liberal historian rick Perlstein. He argued sincerely in the new york magazine that all the sort of conventional wisdom and conventional history about the role of inflation in the politics of the 19 seventies was wrong. And i just think that's ludicrous. It's absolutely ludicrous. But if you flip it around, i think there's an unintentionally correct point to pearlstein, which is that inflation had sort of cultural externalities, sort of like crime,. The issues that define the culture war over the last 50 years keep changing.
