It's an attempt to explain like, well, I'm different from the pause, which means I must be like these guys, right? There are believers who are seeking to make the universe look more like their beliefs but they're also involved with beings themselves. The whole yearning for super apotheosis, let's just say, or if not yourself, maybe then through alliance, and in this case with the Watchers.
