The nascent religious right used a fight against an iris down on racially segregated christian schools to help find that organic basis for the freemarket right in church communities. This is in the the late 19 seventies, when white families pull kids out of public schools and start new private schools called 'christian' schools. The real reason they were doing that was to claim exemptions that religious institutions could have.
