The Dangers of Blackouts in Britain

In the blackouts, no light is allowed to leak from houses or other buildings. Across Britain street lamps are switched off and car headlights covered except for narrow slits. This near total absence of light leads to many more accidents, especially on the roads. There is also a substantial increase in crime, with many more arrests taking place than in previous years. In part this reflects the influx of new laws, like those related to breaches of blackout regulations. But in some cases, people fail to realize they are committing crimes.
