When You Go Belly Up, It Means to Allow Your Child to Tell the Full Version of the Story
The way that you can repair is if your child actually expresses to you that you've caused them harm. That's what it means to go belly up. You're admitting that you too are in a process, that your choices as an adult can do real harm. My own awesome mother, who has many regrets, once said this to me: "I know the divorce will cause you fresh pain at various points in your life" And i want you to know you can come to me any time, even until i die, and i will sit with you and hear you.
