World was destroyed after world war two. And europe as we know it, which we no think of as the rich world or whatever, europe was a fucking waste land 19 forty five. The us had something like one third of the world's manufacturing output. Just like there wasn't any other way to do anything except to build these multilateral institutions in basically three years. Only we we forgot about that great principal, short term, incredibly successful mission, make people rich enough so that they can handle themselves.
