The Name of Ezra in the Book of Revelation
Ezra is a priest with a non lineage stretching back through several high priests, sariah, hilkiah, phineas, eleezer and aaron. He seems to have exercised some administrative authority as a skilled scribe in the persian empire. The events of the chapter are dated to the seventh year of king artixxerxes, around four 58 b c. As such he would have been well able to teach the people and to lead a party of priests and levites back to jerusalem. Although he has a high priestly lineage, however, he does not appear to be the high priest himself.
