The Rise and Fall of Hippius

After the assassination of Hipparchus, rumors began to spread around Athens that the Tyranicides had not been acting out of petty malice, but out of a symbolic blow against Tyranid and oppression. Predictably, Hippius became very paranoid after this and secluded himself behind a wall of skivian bodyguards. He also began to turn his eyes towards Persia, where a new power had begun to cast its shadow over the Hellenic world. In 513 BC, some prominent Athenians sent a plea for aid from the exiled Aqnionidae. Eager to take advantage of Hippius' downward spiral, Clistenese raised a mercenary army and marched on Athens.
