Mental health statistics have been on a steady March in the wrong direction for basically as long as they've been measuring mental health statistics. One reason is there's just way more diagnosis happening. It's way more socially acceptable to, you know, 50 years ago, if you were depressed, it wasn't really socially acceptable to talk about it or go see a therapist.
