The Alternatives to the Anavagya Promise
Ditika: Now that the OMSS is not there, what are the alternatives for state governments who want to either expand the food security net or continue like Tamil Nadu does. She says states should petition the union government and ask them to make this grain available especially since the food stock position is so comfortable. Ditika: I think cash transfers also would make much more sense if they were targeted to pregnant and lactating women as you know the National Food Security Act has a provision of 6,000 rupees for pregnant women for every pregnancy but when the scheme was formulated in 2017 it was reduced to 5,000 rupee and restricted to the first child.
