Quantum dots can have designer optical properties. As you change the size of your quantum dot, for example, you change the energy that that electron can absorb - which changes how it looks optically. This makes it much easier to get crisp colors on a TV or in an experimental subject. You can invent your own atoms to devise your own quantum screen.
