The CIA missed the potential threat from Osama bin Laden that a broader experience wouldn't have. Sephara: If you hire lots of individually brilliant people who think in the same way, you're getting no uplift whatsoever. The problem at the CIA is all of these individually brilliant analysts were West Coast, Protestant, Male, White, middle class. And they just couldn't make sense of what they were seeing.
