The Dancing Molly: A Ship in the Potomac River

With technological developments in the early 20th century, does that escalate some of the violence? Or is it still a pretty regular feature of oystering in the Chesapeake? Definitely bringing in the gas powered windlass, reduce the need for labor, more professionalization of the fisheries forces helped. But even into the late 1950s with the shooting on the Potomac River, there was a lot of bad press showing that most of the men working for the oyster navy were political hacks who needed better training and community relations.
