The ideal of the family is that it will if you just slot into these different terms father mother child and perform them then there will be consistency. But psychoanalysis is quite candid it's like that's not how it works because relations themselves are constitutive of antagonisms. The unconscious is not reducible per se to those socially coordinated roles of being father as they're born of conflicts something escapes them, says Alix.
