The Importance of Immediate Cultural Attitudes
I know that one thing that did really fascinate you was this idea of implicit cultural attitudes. One experiment involves immersing people in virtual reality, seeing themselves as a different race can affect their attitudes. It's not that you believe that you have racist attitudes; it's just more implicit in your behaviour. So for example, when you go to sit on the bus, you may unconsciously choose to sit next to someone who is not a member of an outgroup,. A member of the same racial group as you.
