Shakespeare's Globe is a theatre built on the south bank of the River Thames in London. The replica outdoor theatre complete with thatch roof and indoor candlelit playhouse are surrounded by modern central London. Many of the productions there use historic elements, including live sound effects. In Shakespeare's day, they would have created thunder by rolling a cannonball through a wooden trough. But the Globe have got the next best thing in the form of a thunder sheet and other contraptions replicating traditional methods that came in later.
