The Velvet Underground were signed to a recording contract with MDM in 1966. The deal was struck because of Nico's covergirl looks, Andy Warhol's fame or infamy and also the rock and roll factor. But Lou Morrissey refused to sign until he got his money back first. After that things didn't go as planned for the band.
