The Genetic Divergence of the Kilyfish
In Anchorage, Alaska, they've got this big highway going out west of Anchorage and they have a big fence line on both sides to prevent moose from running out onto the highway. They've been able to show that in the history of those fences being up, they've actually can detect genetic divergence between the moose on the one side of the highway and themoose on the other sideof the highway. Now, are they a different species? Absolutely not. But we're starting to see the initial stages of those populations genetically diverging because of this urban infrastructure. This brings us back to the idea of genetic diversity that we were talking about earlier with regards to the kilyfish.
