Is There a Relationship Between an Organized Religion and Spiritual Seeing?
Every society needs some social situtions to hold it together. An organized religion provides all those things, typically in conjunction with beliefs about god and the soul. And if you live in a society where the state provides some basic functioning rules and norms, you can create an environment in which it's possible to really bifricate spiritual seeking from social order. Does it always work? No, of course not. Because people need middle level associations that aren't necessarily as big as the state. But it has worked for lots of people at different historical moments.
