Dorothy Roberts is a leading scholar of race gender in law. She writes an essay on how the regulation of black women's bodies played a central role in the justification of slavery. Whether free or enslaved black women were portrayed as sexually licentious always consenting and therefore unrapeable, she says. Black women can't legally be raped but they also just can't be raped because black women want sex all the time well we see those same stereotypes today.
