Lacon was very, very critical of the idea that you can use another person to sort of pluck your you lack and make yourself whole. He wanted to get away from nur nuristic ways of being in the world. And i understand your defence of nurvistem. I think that all of us need some of it. But li can't really hated nursism, so he was really not ken on the idea thatYou are absolutely right about the complementarity of two different, singular lacks. Our genuine desire is so idiosyncratic and so specific a that only very few people in the world can truly fulfil our o desire.

Neuroscience has given us great insights into how our brains work. But there is still room for purely humanistic disciplines to help us think through our thoughts and emotions, not to mention the meaning of our lives. Mari Ruti is a professor of English literature, with expertise in critical theory, gender studies, and psychoanalysis, especially the work of French theorist Jacques Lacan. We talk about the psychological drive that is motivated by what Lacan calls “lack,” which is related to “desire.” We use this as a way to think about such essential human experiences as mourning, creativity, and love.
