Google's Open Source Strategy
Google released android as an open operating system. The only way to win here was to get your operating system on as many different pones as possible. Gougle gave it away for free and let them modify and adapt it. Without full verical integration, open source meant different manufacturers could just use android and focus on competing in other ways.
