The Role of Social Roles in Education
There are laws not only about making sure people actually show up to school, but about keeping certain people out of it as well. Elish takes that kind of hierarchy of qualification away and some of the proposals he makes later in the book. But he definitely, I don't know why, let me take a different tack. He talks about learning and the assignment of social roles being fused together in schooling. And this feeds into the problem of only becoming an educator once you've had the right of qualification or progressing to the leaders' stages in the school system because of those previous qualifications. Because that is your social role. Your social role is the certification that you have to justify your own knowledge.
