Swing was able to provide a native buttons one point of time on desktop. AWT provided the native button. And swing calls you remember mixing. What you're talking about is mixing. So swing didn't have a native button, but it lets you mix in our native widget and still work with swing. It wasn't possible in the initial version and wasn't possible for years. In more recent versions, it allowed you to to mix native and lightweight widgets. And we allowed that in Codename One as well. But unlike so flatter works a bit more flatter needs a native virtual machine.
