I didn't get that it was uch a getting out of it so much as it wast the people who were evaluating him. I think there's like an anxiety about going on, like just living your life and figuring out what s next. That is why he, you know, stays closeted throughout the book. There's a metaphorical residence with like, what is japan going to be after wat? And then there's this whole relationship with this woman named sonico, who is the sister of a friend he makes in law school. He really struggles with the fact that he is not attracted to her physically.
