Monticello and the Slavery Problem

Lafayette: I see not how our generation is to disengage itself from this deplorable entanglement. There's something deeply ironic about this, isn't it? You have these two people who are speaking about high ideals and about the importance of equality, and they're being driven around by somebody who's a slave.
