The Importance of Reading
By the end of the sixteenth century, there was increasing encouragement to read the bible at home. Literacy was said to benefit civil society, allowing you to sign petitions. It also meant that if you were in trouble, you could read the neck verse,. which could help you avoid the noose. In extremist the argument for writing, as upposed to reading, was a little bit more dicy but it deepened the opportunity for interaction with the word of god.
