The base game comes with a couple modules. The expansions all add quite a bit until you have like a ton of different options to use. You can bring in adversaries, instead of just being this nameless invader. It's not going to be long before you're ready to start ramping up the difficulty. I've played four games now and I've really made it way too easy every time.
