Is There a Hip Fracture on an X-Ray?
The elderly patient with some hip pain but no x-ray changes is a tricky cohort of patients to navigate through a system in most places unless you've got a really well defined clinical pathway. It's roughly around 1% of patients who fall into this category now nice say that we should offer an MRI if a hip fracture is suspected despite negative x-rays of the hip. If MRI is not available within 24 hours or is contraindicated they say consider a CT and it tends to be as CT as the second line investigation where i've worked.
