The philippines is a democracy. So far, we have no reason to think that it was not a democratic election. The votes for presid are still being officially counted and won't be certified until the end of the month. There were also smaller protests around the country, but nothing major yet. A big fear is that he'll put all his friends and cronies into high positions in the government.

The son of repressive dictator Ferdinand Marcos was just elected president of the Philippines. All he had to do was rewrite his country’s history.
