Consolation and Desolation
St. Francis of Assisi ordained that his religious should moderate their labors so as not to oppress their spiritual fervor. The remedy on such occasions is to recuperate the strength and vigor of our body by some kind of permissible relaxation, says Father Jacob Bertrand. "God is present in times of consolation when things seem to be going well," he adds. 'We don't want to enter into a sort of psychological existential kind of investigation every time those things fluctuate'
