What Are the Pros and Cons of Standardization?
In sepsis, 20 to 40% of patients initially given the label of sepsis turn out to have a non-infectious diagnosis. The danger is that those patients wouldn't receive proper treatment because they've been labeled as being septic and the doctor then goes to the next patient. Even if the elements of a bundle are not the perfect ones, just by the fact of standardizing and bringing attention to a disease in a time sensitive manner probably moves the needle.
