Intercropping is the great idea in the theory, but i think there you quickly run upi the other major challenge facing all agricultural systems. And so their successful systems will be those which are designed to be mechanized. So as machines replacing people, hoping machines replacing chemicals too, to an extent. But i think it does put a little constraint on what you can do.
