The Importance of Political Control in Russia

Even the idea that we call Russia's rich and billionaires oligarchs is such a misnomer because oligarchs have ultimate political control over the politicians by definition. By definition in Russia, Putin jailed the ones who tried to exert political control over him. So the political class starting with Putin, the Kremlin has control. But they're kind of the opposite of oligarchs. They don't have political control. That's the whole thing. I mean, there's this phrase that Beltan and Harding and all these journalists who've made a career out of slamming Russia close to Putin, which is totally meaningless.
