Moocracy and the Law

Lincoln says that in the future, passion will be our enemy. And what we need is instead reason. Sound morality and reverence for the constitution and laws are all things that are somehow crafted from reason. In between those two we see all these interesting rhetorical devices meant to make his audience more reflective. It takes a kind of this sort of mixture, it's almost like rhetoric and dialectic, right?
