The Role of the Popular History Writer in American Politics

In one way we're seeing this shift from the idea of the general reader to the idea ofThe activist reader. This is something that publishers and historians are much more keenly aware of when they develop ideas about popular history. There's a recognition that specific markets can be tapped into, that books can be marketed and publicized to women readers or specifically to regional readers. So that sense of a kind of segmented market is really important in both political and publishing terms.
