The History of the King of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth

The figure and legend of arthur could be very useful, particularly if he was spoken of and thought of as a king. So this was the context when the first major, extended written account of arthur's rule as a monarch was composed. This is found in a book called historia regum britanie, or history of the kings of britain,. Written by a monk in wales named geoffrey of monmouth, in the year 11 36. And it contains the first attempt to give a story of the life and reign of arthur - not just a list of a few events, like the battle of badon but a narrative.
