There are definitely women in my samples who remained on the technical track. Some of them said consistent with what you're talking about, Amy. They were very strategic in wanting to remain on even if they had managerial aspirations later. So they didn't necessarily talk about it as a strategy to protect themselves from being stuck in a particular role later on. But they just felt like they needed technical sophistication before they thought about moving into a managerial role.
