Is There a Maintenance Fluid in the ICU?

I tend to be more of a bolus guy. I will not fight someone on a maintenance fluid if they have a good rationale for it. But usually that rationale needs to be some legit reason. We all are subarachnoid hemorrhages in the near ICU are on maintenance fluid at the end, even if they're eating. That all goes back to this idea of keeping everything hydrated and not letting them get volume depleted because it increases the risk of vasospasm.
