The Altar Bus Is a Simple Memory Card
The altar bus is fully documented. It's not some secret speck. This computer was meant to be built by hobbyists as a fun project, so of course it has good documentation. All one would have to do is look up the bus specification and then build a card that lines up with the right pins. Even in this simplistic bus, there is some weirdness.
