The Two Levels of Scientific Discovery

The most voracious reader, the most assiduous worker can only hope to collect a small number of puzzle pieces and pray that some of them might fit together. When AI can do science in this way, generating new ideas and frameworks, not just clicking facts together, then we will have matched human intelligence. To my mind, the meaningful goal of AI is not gonna be found in number crunching and looking for facts; it's going to require an AI that learns how humans think,. what they don't say, what they missed out about, what they should think about.
