The Promises of God in the Gospels
In the Old Testament, Paul says in 2 Corinthians 1, all the promises of God find their yes in Jesus the Messiah. We can claim those promises, but always with that strange, gethsemanly-like sense of, if it's your will, do I have to do this? And then I think of Paul in 2 Corinthians, and he believed passionately that he could ask God for anything and everything. But Paul still goes through shipwrecks and meetings and stonings and all sorts of things. He would know what my pastor friend in Tehran was going through right now.
