The Importance of Platform Engineering

The nemesis of platform engineering is shadow IT. Yes, absolutely. People bypassing people on the team who are supposed to be responsible for it. But just not being aware and you have five teams and you end up with a dozen different implementations because each team tries more than one thing. Platform engineering wants to wrangle all of that into a common platform,. right then, where that meets the needs of most engineering teams. It doesn't need to meet the needs of all of them.
